Utah House Democratic Caucus Oppose the Passage H.B. 300 Amendments to Election LawÂ
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah House Democratic Caucus released the following statement on H.B. 300 Amendments to Election Law:
"We oppose H.B. 300 Amendments to Election Law, a bill that would automatically opt out millions of Utahns from vote-by-mail, impose unnecessary barriers to voter registration, and eliminate protections for ballots postmarked before Election Day. Despite bipartisan opposition, this bill creates confusion for voters, county clerks, and post offices across Utah.
We are especially concerned about the impact on Utahns with disabilities, seniors, and those facing systemic hardships, who may struggle to navigate the new restrictions or obtain the required identification. These unnecessary barriers will disproportionately affect those who already face challenges in accessing the ballot. Voting should be accessible—not restricted.
Vote-by-mail is a secure, trusted, and nonpartisan way to increase voter participation. We remain committed to protecting this system, which has served Utahns well for years. We urge Utahns to stay informed, track this legislation in the Senate, and make their voices heard."
