Sahara Hayes was elected in 2023 to represent Utah’s House District 32, which includes parts of Millcreek, Salt Lake City, and South Salt Lake. In addition, she serves as the House Minority Assistant Whip for the Democratic Caucus, where she helps advocate for her caucus’s priorities and goals.

During her time in office Sahara has focused on fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, student mental health, firearm safety, public education, and the environment. She has passed bills aimed at youth suicide prevention and streamlining the process for updating names and gender markers, and has worked to collect robust firearm data and protect student athletes. Sahara has deep ties to the district she now serves, and her guiding principle is to ensure that the voices of her constituents are heard and represented in the legislature.

Beyond her political commitments Sahara is a grant writer with extensive experience in both local government and nonprofit sectors. She is an avid reader, hiker, and knitter, and enjoys taking aerial arts classes. Sahara resides in Millcreek with her partner, Lily, and a small pack of beloved pets.
