District 31
Verona Mauga serves as the representative for House District 31, representing the residents of West Valley City and Taylorsville in the Utah State Legislature. Since her election, Representative Mauga has made history as the first Samoan elected to the Utah State Legislature and the first Samoan woman elected to any state legislature in the continental United States. Her trailblazing role underscores her dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering inclusive, equitable communities.

As a small business owner and advocate, Representative Mauga brings a unique perspective to the Legislature. She operates My Choice Utah and Sagato Bakery & Cafe, which has given her firsthand insight into the challenges faced by families and entrepreneurs. With a professional background in mental and behavioral health, she combines compassion and practical experience to champion solutions that uplift individuals and strengthen communities.

Representative Mauga serves on the Economic Development & Technology and Judiciary standing committees and the Economic Development & Technology Appropriations Committee. Her legislative priorities include driving economic growth, fostering innovation, supporting small businesses, and creating opportunities for all Utahns. She has also co-founded impactful community initiatives, such as Le Malu, which amplifies Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander voices in Utah, reflecting her commitment to celebrating the vibrant culture and diversity of her district.

Representative Mauga’s connection to her district is deeply rooted in her upbringing and dedication to service. Born in Kahuku, Hawaii, she moved to West Valley City as a child and has devoted her life to the communities of Utah’s west side. Beyond her legislative work, she continues to focus on family, service, and creating meaningful change for her constituents.
